HollandBIO welcomes Photanol as a new member

,

HollandBIO connects, represents and supports the Dutch life science sector. We are very proud that we already represent 225 companies: from start-ups, small and medium-sized companies to large companies, active in health, food or biobased economy. Today we welcome Photanol! Photanol is a revolutionary biotech company that has developed a sustainable production technology for next-generation renewable chemicals. Photanol likes to address a word to the reader:

“Our mission is to restore balance on the planet. We do this by creating circular production of valuable carbon-based chemicals in order to halt the planet’s dependency on fossil feedstock.

Our proprietary platform technology transforms CO₂ into renewable carbon-based chemicals using just sunlight. In order to do this, we work with the superpower of cyanobacteria to photosynthesize. We optimize these bacteria to absorb more CO₂ and adapt its metabolic pathways to produce a desired chemical. In other words, we transform these bacteria into highly-efficient mini factories that run on sunlight, produce just oxygen as by-product and need radically less land and water than traditional variants. This way we are able to develop circular solutions for different monomers, polymers and plastics employed across chemical industries.

Together with our partners Nobian (part of Nouryon), Corbion and Renolit, significant progress has been made since the first patent in 2008. We have our own R&D facilities at Amsterdam Science Park, have a fully operational pilot plant at Prodock Amsterdam since 2016 and last year we finished building our demonstration plant at Chemie Park Delfzijl. In the summer of 2021 this plant will produce the first Photanol products, as preparation for the next phase towards commercial production 2024.
