Hollandbio calls for integrated approach in EU Biotech Act
Although Europe has worked hard to become a biotech leader, we are now holding ourselves back with excessive regulation and insufficient action. Every day, biotech frontrunners face unnecessary hurdles and challenges in their aim to bring products from bench to market in the European Union (EU). Innovations are stalling, talent is moving abroad, and other continents are capitalizing on European breakthroughs. Fortunately, the upcoming EU Biotech Act offers us a unique opportunity to break the status quo and make a real impact. To make the best of this act, hollandbio participated in a Public Authorities Questionnaire analyzing the regulatory framework for biotech in the EU. We call for an integrated approach to unlock the full potential of biotech for economic growth, strategic autonomy, food security, and personal and planetary health. For instance, by establishing an overarching EU Biotech Office to streamline biotech-related regulations. By embracing progress and investing in smart solutions, we believe Europe can secure its future as a biotech powerhouse.
