Current state of biotech: hollandbio’s Wieteke at Johnson & Johnson’s event ‘Paths to the patient’

Last Tuesday at Johnson & Johnson’s event ‘Paths to the patient’, hollandbio’s Wieteke delivered a keynote about the current state of Dutch biotech. With a room full of frontrunners, the message was clear: it’s time to act (super) now. Wieteke outlined three key drivers of innovation: the urgent global challenges like unmet medical needs; the unprecedented potential of bioscience combined with computing and AI; and the drive of bold biotech entrepreneurs. These key drivers are not just shaping the future — they are transforming the way we feed and fuel the world.

Hollandbio’s Wieteke shared her perspective: “These are exciting times to be in biotech: as we are learning more and more about the ingenuity of nature, clever scientists and entrepreneurs are not just eager to publish their findings — they are determined to embark on the bold journey to turn this knowledge into life-saving solutions for patients”.

While these are challenging times for biotech companies,  we’ve never seen more unity, willingness, and urgency to do what is needed to let the Dutch and European biotech ecosystem flourish. With the ambitious national Dutch vision on biotechnology and the upcoming EU Biotech Act in mind, the moment is now to deliver on our promise to make life better with the power of biotech.
