Our speakers:

Niels Emmerich, VP, Global Head, Search & Evaluation and Global Alliances at AbbVie

After joining Abbott in 2011, Niels has held several positions with Abbott and, since its inception in 2013, AbbVie, currently serving in the Corporate Strategy Office as Vice President, Global Head of Search & Evaluation and Global Alliances. Transactions that his group and Niels were involved in include acquisitions (Pharmacyclics, Stemcentrx, Allergan), numerous R&D collaborations, structured acquisitions, option- and licensing agreements, as well as equity investments made by AbbVie Ventures. Recent transactions include partnerships with Syndesi, Gedeon-Richter, Scripps, and Dragonfly.

Prior to joining AbbVie Niels was CEO of BioPheresis, co-founder and COO of immatics biotechnologies (IMTX), and a consultant with McKinsey & Company. Niels received his Ph.D. from the University of Tuebingen.

Michael Newton, CEO at Qorium

New York native Michael Newton is the CEO of Qorium, a Maastricht biotech firm pioneering cultivated leather that is beautiful, premium, and authentic without compromise. Michael previously held various leadership roles at Nike for over a decade, including driving next-gen manufacturing and digital product creation. He transitioned to Europe for Qorium to build a deep-tech startup. He’s known for commercially scaling tech, transforming industries, and now focuses on Qorium’s mission to provide high-quality, ethical leather alternatives, merging his Nike experience with biotech innovation.
