As a biotech company, you want to ensure that your knowledge and expertise remain secure within your organization. After all, intellectual property and trade secrets form the foundation for attracting investors and further developing your products and services. Protecting these assets is no longer just a physical matter; it is increasingly digital.
Join our Webinar with HVG Law*.
We’ll guide you through:
- A brief overview of upcoming cyber legislation.
- The NIS2 and the Critical Entities Resilience Directive: what is changing and what does this mean for your biotech company?
- Self-assessment guidance: do you know if you are in scope?
- What needs to be in place within your organization in order to comply?
In recent years, the number of cyberattacks has risen sharply. As a knowledge- and data-intensive sector, biotech is particularly vulnerable and increasingly targeted. These attacks often aim to steal highly sensitive information, such as product data, genomic sequences, research and patient data, and intellectual property.
This not only puts individual companies at risk. Biotech companies operate in highly interconnected ecosystems involving CROs, hospitals, suppliers and cloud providers. As a result, a single breach can have far-reaching consequences, disrupting clinical trials, supply chains, and even leading to the loss or misuse of valuable IP.
To address the collective responsibility, the European Union has introduced legislation on digital security and resilience. Some of this legislation is being translated into national legislation in each Member State. These include the Network and Information Security Directive (NIS2) and the Critical Entities Resilience Directive.
This legislation will soon come into effect and may impose new obligations on companies and organizations in the biotech sector. Activities such as pharmaceutical development, food production, research, and the manufacturing of chemical substances may be classified as critical or important sectors and are therefore within the scope of these new laws.
Who should attend?
Biotech and biotech associated companies with >50 employees AND/OR >€10 million revenue a year AND/OR >€10 million on their balance sheet. Please note: biotech and biotech-associated companies with <50 employees, <€10 million revenue a year, and <€10 million on their balance sheet are out of scope for the NIS2 Directive. For these companies, this Webinar might not be relevant to join.
