Het\u00a0BioInnovation\u00a0Institute\u00a0(BII) in Kopenhagen werd in 2017 opgericht door de Novo\u00a0Nordisk\u00a0Foundation en is sinds 2021 actief als onafhankelijke foundation, met \u00e9\u00e9n duidelijke missie: wetenschap versnellen naar\u00a0maatschappelijke en economische impact. In de periode 2018\u20132025 ondersteunde BII meer dan 150\u00a0start-ups\u00a0en projecten met in totaal \u20ac185 miljoen aan\u00a0grants\u00a0en leningen. De resultaten zijn overtuigend: 81% van de\u00a0start-ups\u00a0haalde externe financiering en samen trokken zij meer dan \u20ac1 miljard aan vervolginvesteringen aan \u2013 ruim\u00a0zeven\u00a0euro extern kapitaal voor elke euro van\u00a0het\u00a0BII. Inmiddels hebben 21 portfoliobedrijven producten op de markt gebracht en meer dan 1.000 banen gecre\u00eberd.\u00a0Wat kan\u00a0Nederland\u00a0leren\u00a0van dit Deense succes?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het succes van het BII is geen toeval.&nbsp;Zijn&nbsp;kracht zit in de combinatie van vroeg kapitaal, hands-on begeleiding en fysieke infrastructuur, samengebracht in \u00e9\u00e9n hechte community. Via het ge\u00efntegreerde acceleratiemodel (Bio Studio, Venture Lab en Venture House)&nbsp;begeleidt het&nbsp;onderzoekers en ondernemers stap voor stap richting investeringsgereedheid. BII vervult daarbij een duidelijke brugfunctie tussen onderzoek en industrie, met langdurige samenwerkingen met&nbsp;fondsen&nbsp;en industri\u00eble partners \u00e9n een sterke internationale investeerdersaanwezigheid. Zo&nbsp;vertaalt het&nbsp;fundamentele kennis structureel naar ondernemerschap en impact.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ook het&nbsp;Nederlandse&nbsp;Biotech&nbsp;Booster&nbsp;deelt&nbsp;een aantal van deze&nbsp;succesfactoren,&nbsp;ziet&nbsp;hollandbio. Beide programma\u2019s werken voorbij publicaties en patenten, richting producten, bedrijven en maatschappelijke waarde. En in beide modellen geldt hetzelfde uitgangspunt: kapitaal alleen is niet genoeg \u2013 financiering is altijd gekoppeld aan ondersteuning, netwerk en expertise.&nbsp;De&nbsp;legitimiteit van beide aanpakken&nbsp;ligt dan ook&nbsp;in hetzelfde doel: investeren in&nbsp;biotech&nbsp;met maatschappelijke impact.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het\u00a0belangrijkste\u00a0verschil zit in de vorm. Waar BII opereert als onafhankelijke non-profitorganisatie, gefinancierd met privaat geld en met een continu, langjarig mandaat, is de\u00a0Biotech\u00a0Booster een nationaal programma, gefinancierd vanuit het Nationaal Groeifonds, met een vaste einddatum in 2032 en een uitvoerende rol voor het ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap\u00a0(OCW).\u00a0Juist hier zit een belangrijke les uit Denemarken:\u00a0impact\u00a0ontstaat niet door eenmalige impulsen, maar door consistent volhouden.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hollandbio ziet in\u00a0Biotech\u00a0Booster\u00a0nu al\u00a0een werkbare vorm van samenwerking ontstaan, waaruit potenti\u00eble innovaties voortkomen die impact kunnen maken met de excellente\u00a0biotechkennis\u00a0die Nederland rijk is.\u00a0Of de huidige\u00a0governance\u2011vorm de\u00a0Biotech\u00a0Booster uiteindelijk beperkt of juist versterkt, zal de komende jaren blijken.\u00a0Wel is\u00a0duidelijk dat\u00a0het aanbod van\u00a0start\u2011ups\u00a0en\u00a0scale\u2011ups groot\u00a0is\u00a0en de academische vijver diep.\u00a0Dat maakt, net als bij het BII,\u00a0langdurige samenwerking en blijvende\u00a0<s>\u00a0<\/s>investering cruciaal.\u00a0Valoriseren kan je leren \u2014 en loont als je bereid bent om te blijven investeren.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Het\u00a0BII Impact Report 2025\u00a0laat zien wat een consistente\u00a0langetermijnaanpak\u00a0kan opleveren voor\u00a0biotech\u00a0valorisatie.
