Al in de eerste dagen van hun EU-voorzitterschap presenteerde Polen een aangepast NGT-voorstel in de Europese Raad, in een poging de ontstane patstelling vlot te trekken. Het voorstel bevat naast enkele verbeteringen en verduidelijkingen, ook vooral een zorgwekkende toevoeging: een extra verificatieprocedure om vast te stellen of er mogelijk patenten op NGT-zaden rusten, en een \u2018opt-out clausule\u2019 die lidstaten toestaat de teelt van gepatenteerde NGT-zaden te verbieden.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hollandbio betreurt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollandbio.nl\/nieuws\/benutting-nieuwe-veredelingstechnieken-loopt-verder-vertraging-op\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">de vermenging van de NGT-modernisering met een discussie over patenten<\/a>, die door een geheel andere richtlijn gereguleerd worden (de biotech octrooi richtlijn).
