Al meer dan <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollandbio.nl\/nieuws\/dsm-viert-150-jaar-biotechnologische-innovatie\/\">150 jaar<\/a><\/strong> is Delft de stad waar gist geproduceerd wordt \u00e9n waar biotechnologen onderzoeken hoe ze van gist steeds betere \u2018celfabriekjes\u2018 kunnen maken. Door het genetisch materiaal van gist aan te passen kan je gist nuttige producten laten maken, zoals bio-ethanol, insuline of medicijnen tegen malaria. De manier waarop je deze aanpassingen doorvoert, blijkt telkens sneller en beter te kunnen met bijvoorbeeld CRISPR-Cas9. Onderzoekers van de <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tudelft.nl\/2021\/tnw\/delftse-onderzoekers-bouwen-kunstmatig-chromosoom\">TU Delft<\/a><\/strong> hebben nu echter met succes een kunstmatig chromosoom in gist gebouwd die aanpassingen nog makkelijker maakt. Ontketent deze doorbraak in gist <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trouw.nl\/wetenschap\/een-doorbraak-in-gist-dankzij-delfts-onderzoek-het-kan-een-revolutie-worden~b47d274e\/\">een revolutie<\/a><\/strong>? De nieuwe mogelijkheden lijken eindeloos, bijvoorbeeld in duurzame productie van veel materialen en grondstoffen.
