This new research collaboration has the potential to\ndeliver much-needed plant health and\nnutrition improvements\nto food crops so farmers\ncan more efficiently and\nsustainably grow\nimproved plant\nvarieties that\ndeliver the types of foods consumers want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Farmers need\ninnovative solutions as\nthey face limited natural\nresources and a\nchanging climate,&#8221;\nsaid Jeremy\nWilliams, Head of Plant\nBiotechnology, Crop Science&nbsp;Research &amp; Development (R&amp;D) at Bayer.\n&#8220;Access to Meiogenix&#8217;s\nproprietary\ntechnologies\ncould improve the precision and speed\nwith which our breeders enhance crops, which could ultimately accelerate those solutions for the diverse needs\nof people and our\nplanet.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meiogenix&#8217;s proprietary\ntechnologies\nare used to induce\nthe exchange of genomic regions between chromosomes of plant cells during\nmeiosis, the natural process that generates genetic diversity during plant\nbreeding. Technologies based on meiotic recombination provide commercial crops\nwith access to a broader genetic diversity, including complex traits for\nimproved food quality, plants&#8217; resistance to diseases and pests, and higher\nyield potential. The\nresulting hybrids and varieties have the potential to deliver value throughout\nthe food chain, from farmers to consumers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Over the past\ndecade, we have assembled unique know-how, intellectual property portfolio and\nnetwork of experts to help generate biodiversity and accelerate breeding\nthrough modulating meiotic recombination.
