Het Ermelose Agri-tech bedrijf kweekt op industri\u00eble schaal de&nbsp;<em>Alphitobius diaperinus<\/em>&nbsp;(ook wel bekend als de buffalo kever) en verwerkt de larven van deze kever tot duurzame en functionele ingredi\u00ebnten voor de voedingsindustrie. Daarmee heeft het bedrijf een van de oplossingen in handen voor de almaar toenemende vraag naar duurzame en gezonde voeding. Er bestaat een steeds grotere behoefte aan meer variatie binnen het consumptiepatroon om zo de impact op het milieu te verkleinen. Met een miljoeneninvestering van Oost NL en andere investeerders kan Protifarm solide doorgroeien en verder inzetten op R&amp;D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oostnl.nl\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/nieuwsfoto\/public\/2019-11\/Vertical-farming-breeding-facility.jpg?itok=mylERsdy\" alt=\"Vertical-farming-breeding-facility.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>10 miljard monden voeden<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Naar schatting stijgt de wereldbevolking naar 10 miljard mensen in 2050. Om al die monden te voeden moet de voedselproductie met maar liefst 70% toenemen. Dat levert serieuze uitdagingen op voor de duurzaamheid van onze voedselproductie. De \u2018duurzame eiwittransitie\u2019 past in de groeiende behoefte en urgentie om ons voedselsysteem radicaal te hervormen, waarbij we onze eiwitten uit andere bronnen halen dan vlees, zoals plantaardige bronnen of insecten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Vertical farming<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Protifarm kweekt insecten door toepassing van &#8216;vertical farming&#8217; in lagen boven elkaar. Hierdoor is weinig kweekruimte en amper water nodig. Ook de CO2-uitstoot is beperkt. De insecten leven op plantaardige zijstromen uit de voedingsindustrie. De voerconversie van insecten, vergeleken met traditionele life stock, is effici\u00ebnt en draagt bij aan het duurzame karakter van de kweek. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dierlijk en plantaardig alternatief<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De verkregen ingredi\u00ebnten, die Protifarm vermarkt onder het merk AdalbaPro, zijn niet alleen duurzaam maar ook gezond. Protifarm haalt belangrijke nutri\u00ebnten uit het insect en maakt hiervan oplosbare poeders en getextureerde producten die zorgen voor binding en structuur in het eindproduct. De nutri\u00ebnten omvatten alle essenti\u00eble aminozuren, vitamines (zoals B12), mineralen, vezels en gezonde vetten. \u201cOnze AdalbaPro ingredi\u00ebnten bevatten de kwaliteit van dierlijke prote\u00efne en zijn tegelijkertijd duurzamer dan dierlijke en plantaardige alternatieven,\u201d vertelt Tom Mohrmann, CEO van Protifarm. \u201cDaarmee is het&nbsp;<em>the best of both worlds<\/em>.\u201d De AdalbaPro ingredi\u00ebntenlijn van Protifarm zijn grondstoffen voor eindproducten. Van de insecten zie je dan niets meer terug. \u201cVoedselproducenten maken met onze ingredi\u00ebnten producten als eiwitshakes, voedingsrepen, noedels, maar ook verrijken ze vlees of vleesalternatieven,\u201d aldus Mohrmann.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Investeren in eiwittransitie<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Met de investering van Oost NL en andere investeerders kan Protifarm een stap zetten in de gewenste groei. Mohrmann: \u201cMet deze investering kunnen we doorgroeien in capaciteit en onze kweek- en verwerkingsprocessen optimaliseren. We investeren ook in sales-, marketing- en R&amp;D-activiteiten, zodat we internationaal voorop kunnen blijven lopen in deze markt.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bart Hoeflaak, teammanager Food van business unit Capital is trots dat Oost NL een bijdrage kan leveren aan de groei van Protifarm: \u201cOost NL investeert in bedrijven met oplossingen voor grote maatschappelijke vraagstukken. We zien de eiwittransitie als een van de grootste uitdagingen van deze tijd en ondersteunen bedrijven die daarmee bezig zijn.
