The building is one of the nine finalists that have\nbeen selected from a longlist of twenty-four newly built or restored buildings\nwithin the Leiden region. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Nucleus building has been designed by Popma\n&amp; Ter Steege. With their design, the architects have created an open and\ncollaborative environment to promote knowledge transfer. There are several open\nmeeting spaces where employees from different business units and disciplines\ncan meet and connect with each other. The building also contains a special\nlecture room for both internal and external meetings and lectures. The\nlaboratories are located on the second floor of the building and are a\ncompletely restricted area for safety and confidentiality reasons. Within this\narea, the laboratories are structured optimally for the current working\nprocesses, but also have the flexibility to be restructured to adapt to future\ndevelopments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Open atmosphere<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CEO Bas Reichert tells: \u201cWe are very proud of\nthis nomination. Although we are a relatively small company, we can compete\nwith large organizations such as Naturalis. This design fits perfectly with our\ncore values. We want to collaborate with our customers, partners and spin-off\ncompanies in an open atmosphere and create an environment in which both our\nemployees and our customers enjoy what they are doing. In our new lecture room,\nwe have already organized several successful expert meetings, where visitors could\nalso sit down for lunch and get a tour through our lab. We often hear from them\nthat they really enjoy the place and appreciate how well everything is\norganized.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Excellent sustainability<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe sustainability of the Nucleus building is\nalso in line with our corporate vision\u201d Reichert continues. The building has a\nBREAAM sustainability label of \u2018Excellent\u2019 due to, for example, the 290 square\nmeters of solar panels, the compact building volume, the efficient and\nhigh-frequency lighting and the water-saving sanitary appliances. In addition,\nthe building is connected to the thermal storage system (WKO) of the Biopartner\nfoundation, which has an overcapacity for this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Vote for BaseClear<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you agree that the Nucleus building\ndeserves to win this architecture prize?
