This allows its partners to produce cost effective biobased products that can compete with fossil based alternatives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nreverse effects on our climate due to the use of fossil-based carbon chemicals\nand fuels drives the demand for bio-based alternatives higher every year. The\nfuture of these industries lies in sustainable, bio-based production routes\nthat are efficient and cost effective at large scale. Industrial fermentation\nprocesses are promising, but are often plagued with low concentration, low\nproductivities and high product separation costs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DAB\u2019s\nproprietary bioreactor technology was initially developed at Delft University\nof Technology and overcomes many of the pitfalls of industrial fermentation\nthrough the combination of fermentation and separation into a single vessel. It\nis a scalable device that enables in-situ product recovery without any moving\nparts or membranes. The key value of the DAB technology is the ability to\nincrease fermentation productivity by more than 2 fold, while reducing\noperational cost by 50%. DAB\u2019s technology can be retrofitted and is ready to be\nscaled in new or existing facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DAB\nworks with industry leading companies on the implementation of this technology into\nsectors such as flavors and fragrances, specialty and commodity chemicals, and\nfuels. Kirsten Steinbusch, CEO of DAB said: \u201cThe investment enables us to grow\nour team and expand capacity to serve our customers worldwide. We are ready to\ntake the development to the next scale with our partners.\u201c Delft University of\nTechnology also invested in DAB, through Delft Enterprises. Director Paul\nAlthuis: \u201cOur university is committed to a sustainable future. To achieve this,\nit is important that ground-breaking research from our scientists also reaches\nthe market. That is why we invest in promising technological innovations, such\nas those from DAB. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rinke Zonneveld, Director of\nInnovationQuarter, is excited about the prospects of DAB. \u201cOur region has a big\nchallenge in transitioning the fossil-based industry around the Port of\nRotterdam. Biobased processes provide an alternative but need to be scaled up\nefficiently to become economically feasible. DAB\u2019s unique technology enables a\njump in efficiency that will accelerate the biobased revolution.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201dWe\nare very enthusiastic about the possibilities of DAB to decrease operational\nexpenditures for bio-producing clients aiming to be cost competitive with\npetrochemical substitutes. Given the simplicity of the solution and the\neasiness of retrofitting we see lots of potential\u201d, said FORWARD.one partners\nRiemer Smink and Arjan G\u00f6bel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DAB Business\nadvisor and senior business developer in industrial biotech Marc Lankveld said\n: \u201cThis investment in DAB by FORWARD.one and Innovation Quarter is a strong\nencouragement for the Biotech industry in the Netherlands. It shows the\nwillingness of financial investors to invest in new Biotechnology and thereby\nopening up all kind of new renewable solutions, like renewable jetfuels with a\nsignificant lower CO2 footprint.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DAB\u2019s\ncustomers are very positive about the technology\u2019s potential. Andreas Worberg,\nMember of the Executive Board at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for\nBiosustainability in Copenhagen said: \u201cIf we are serious in using biomass and\nadvanced microbes for producing bio-based products that can compete with\ntraditional, petrochemically manufactured products, we definitely need better\nproduction processes. DAB\u2019s FAST concept is an excellent example of such\ninnovative technology. It might be a game changer in bioprocess engineering,\nbecause it enables cost effective production of a host of new bio-based\nmolecules.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DAB will present today its technology at Nederlands Biotechnologen Congress in Ede and several other international events later this year.
