Do Micro- and Nanoplastics Cause Oxidative Stress?
Van derden14/10/26
Join this webinar featuring Hanna Dusza from Utrecht University and Inger Brandsma from Toxys, who will share exploratory research investigating the effects of micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) in human placental cells, alongside complementary mechanistic investigations using the ToxTracker® (OECD 446A) reporter assay.
MNPs are increasingly detected in the environment and human tissues, and growing evidence that they can reach the placenta has raised important questions about their potential impact on reproductive health and fetal development. Oxidative stress is frequently proposed as one mechanism underlying MNP-induced toxicity, but studying these responses is not always straightforward.
Learning points:
- How MNP uptake and oxidative stress responses can be investigated in human placental cells
- The challenges of using fluorescence-based assays when testing MNPs
- What the role of oxidative stress in MNP toxicity is
- How ToxTracker and complementary approaches can help distinguish biological responses from potential assay interference
