Join the Stakeholder event – Accelerating the Global Transition Towards Animal-Free Research & Innovation on 13 May.
The transition toward animal-free research and innovation is gaining momentum, but real progress requires the combined insights of researchers, policy makers, regulatory authorities, industry partners, and societal stakeholders.
ZonMw and Transitie Proefdiervrije Innovatie organise this event to connect expertise, identify what is needed next, and ensure that scientific, regulatory and societal perspectives move forward together to explore one key question: How can we accelerate the global transition towards animal-free research and innovation?
During this event, three distinctive transdisciplinary research consortia, AFARA, SAFE, and Valuing Testing, will share their unique perspectives on the transition to animal-free science and innovation, reflecting their diverse expertise in toxicology, social sciences, humanities, regulation and practice.
📅 Date: Wednesday, 13 May 2026
⏰ Time: 12:00–17:00, followed by networking drinks

Why is this relevant for biotech companies?
The transition to animal-free innovation is not only a technical challenge, but also a social one. The transdisciplinary consortia AFARA, SAFE and Valuing Testing bring together expertise from toxicology, social sciences, ethics and law, alongside regulatory and practical knowledge. By collaborating with industry, NGOs, regulators and model developers, they aim to accelerate the adoption of animal-free methods and replace animal testing in chemical safety assessments.
During the stakeholder meeting, the consortia will share insights and engage in dialogue with a broad group of stakeholders, including the biotech sector. The goal is to identify drivers and barriers to regulatory acceptance, connect expertise, and define the steps needed to accelerate the transition to animal-free research and innovation.
