What drives Dutch biotech to relocate?
A strong innovation climate is the lifeblood of a thriving biotech sector. It’s what allows bold ideas to grow into impactful innovations. But what happens when that climate starts to falter? As part of her internship at hollandbio, completed as the final step of her MSc in Science and Business Management at Utrecht University, hollandbio’s Hanna set out to explore just that. Through interviews with biotech entrepreneurs and sector experts, she mapped the practical challenges biotech companies face in the Netherlands and uncovered the structural factors that drive them to look abroad. She found that, despite a solid scientific foundation, the Dutch biotech ecosystem is held back by persistent hurdles in three key areas: valorization, financing and regulation. Curious to learn more about these hurdles and possible solutions she explored? You can read Hanna’s executive summary here. Got questions or want to exchange thoughts? Feel free to reach out!
